What To Do At Home
Week One: All Homework this week is to give an introduction to the unit that we will be starting and continuing for eight weeks. This unit will be focusing on integrating the theme Under the Sea, Common Core Standards and the use of technology in the classroom. Homework this week will be focusing on helping with the beginning of unit assessment.
Monday: No Homework
Tuesday: Worksheet on iPad. Addition Problems to Tens. (For assessment purposes)
Wednesday: Worksheet on iPad. Subtract Problems to Tens (For assessment purposes)
Thursday: Look over your childs A-Z Under the Sea List. Help students to fill in more things for letters they do not have. This will provide students with an introduction to the unit Under the Sea.
Friday: No Homework.
Week Two: All homework for week two will be a continuation to the introduction of the unit. This week students will be focusing on what lives and functions under the sea and will read several books on the topic. Parents will need to help students understand what was read in class and what the purpose was by completing family discussions as well as worksheets to later be discussed as a class.
Monday: No Homework
Tuesday: Go over the corrections made to your students story and have child explain why the changes are made.

Thursday: Write a letter to the author of Sea of Stars: A Day in the Life of a Starfish, telling the author what you liked most about the story.
Friday: Play at least one hour of math games.
Week Three: Homework this week will help to keep students on track with the work done in class along with the book Rainbow fish that was read in class. This week will finish up the animals lessons in the Under the Sea unit.
Monday: Play at least one hour of Reading Games on iPad.
Tuesday: Look over the story map written in class today by your child. Have them tell you what happened in the story.
Wednesday: Play Under the Sea Hangman. http://www.softschools.com/games/hangman/sea.jsp
Thursday: Review addition and subtraction facts to 20 for game tomorrow.
Friday: No Homework.
Week Four: This week begin two weeks devoted to endangered animals in class. This week students will discuss other animals they did not know about before.

Tuesday: If not finished in class, finish "Words I Did Not Know" list.
Wednesday: Practice reading anything of your choice for at least 30 minutes.
Thursday: Check over your child's A-Z Round 2 list.
Friday: No homework.
Week Five: Nearing the end of the unit students will be wrapping up new knowledge. This week students will use a new chart that will be introduced in class KWL chart. They will be required to complete several of these in the next few weeks.
Monday: Complete a "k" part of the KWL chart about Under the Sea.
Tuesday: Complete the "l" part of the KWL chart about Under the Sea.

Thursday: Write a letter to someone to be brought in tomorrow.
Friday: 30 minutes of reading iPad games.
Week Six: This week will consist of more review in math as well as review in letter formation. Students will be writing a letter to the government in proper letter format. They will need to work at home on these review worksheets as well as a bit of data tracking. Students will be tracking whale migration to plot for later days in class.
Monday: Review letter structure with Letter to Santa worksheet.
Tuesday: Search online for data of your own on any topic of your choice.
Wednesday: Track data further.

Week Seven: The early days in this week will be devoted once again to review so students will be prepared for the field trip on Wednesday. The later days will create the webquest for their final grade of the unit.

Wednesday: Compile all of the data found today so we can share tomorrow.
Thursday: Finish working on video story if you need to.
Friday: Finish up all activities done this week in class if you have not already.
Week Eight: Last week of the unit!! They will be presenting the webquest so be sure to make sure your child is doing his or her part on this work.
Monday: Work on what is left of the webquest that you need to do.
Tuesday and Wednesday: Prepare for presentations!
